Embattled social media celebrity, Ramon Abass Olorunwa (Hushpuppi) is to be handed his sentence for fraud and money laundering charges in the United States on Monday, 14 February, 2021 according the U.S Justice Department.
Spokesperson of the U.S. Attorney Office for Central District of California, Thom Mrozek in an email to BBC News confirmed the update.
Although he did not give details about how the trial will go or the length of the sentence would get, he however hinted that Hushpuppi will serve his sentence in an American prison, and that may later be deported after doing his time.
Hushpuppi has since June 2021 pleaded guilty to multi-million-dollar internet fraud and money laundering charges filed against him by the United States government.
Arrested in Dubai, the United Arab Emirate (UAE) in June 2020, and subsequently extradited to the U.S, Abass has spent the last 20 months in custody. Speculations are that he may bag a sentence of between 10-15 years.
He will also be making a full restitution of the proceeds of his crime to the US government.
