The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that one of its operatives was shot dead by an unidentified gunman in front of a Hotel in D-Line, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the sad development in a statement on Sunday, that the officer was shot by a yet-to-be-identified gunman on Friday night.
According to Iringe-Koko, the officer, who is an inspector, was attached to the Department of Operations in Yenegoa, Bayelsa State.
She added that the hoodlum shot the officer who was on escort duty in the head while escorting his principal to a hotel around Oroworukwo within the D-Line axis of the Olu-Obasanjo area, Port Harcourt.
The state police image- maker also disclosed that the AK-47 rifle and beret of the officer were carted away.
“Police patrol teams were immediately mobilised to the scene” and that efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing criminals and recover the rifle while the corpse of the policeman has been deposited in a mortuary,” the statement added.
