A man identified as only as Chayi, has been arrested by the Plateau State Police Command after he allegedly beheaded his estranged wife and chopped off his daughter’s hand in the Kampala community of Jos North Local Government Area.
The incident, according to the State Police spokesman, Alabo Alfred, happened on Tuesday, 14 February, 2023, when the woman who had left the husband following domestic abuse, went to the house with her six-year-old daughter to remove her things.
A neighbour, Sunday Yaks, who spoke to journalists who visited the community, said:
“The Kampala community right now is in shock over what the man did to his wife and daughter. I know the man as Mr Chayi, and the name of his daughter is Jessica, who is six years old.
“The man has been having a marital crisis, and the wife eventually left the marriage with their little daughter.
“But the woman returned to their house in Kampala with her little daughter to pack her things. We don’t know what happened but the man cut off the wife’s head and the daughter’s hand with an axe.
“It was a terrible sight when some community members who were alerted rushed to their house. The two victims were rushed to the hospital, but the woman died while receiving treatment.
“It took the intervention of the security men to save the man from being lynched by an angry mob in the community.”
Police spokesperson, Alfred, who confirmed the incident, said the man had been arrested by the policemen who were drafted to the community upon receiving the information.
“Right now, the man is in our custody. He will be charged to court when an investigation is concluded in the matter,” he stated.
