A Dei-Dei Grade I Area Court in Abuja on Monday, 20 March, 2023 in Abuja sentenced 22-year-old-trader identified as Kingsley Isaac to three months for stealing two chickens worth N8,000.
Isaac was charged with theft by the police as the prosecution attorney, Chinedu Ogada, who informed the court that the conviction was for an offence that occurred on March 11.
According to Ogada, one Abdulaziz Salihu of the same address had on March 11 filed a police report about the incident at the Zuba Police Station at 2 am.
“Isaac went to the complainant’s house and made away with his two chickens valued at N8,000 without his consent. The convict opened the complainant’s car, stole car parts worth N35, 000 and sold it to an unknown person. But was later caught and handed over to the police for proper investigation,” police prosecutor said
The prosecutor, who added that the convict made a confessional statement during interrogation by police, explained that the offence Isaac committed contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
The Area Court judge, Saminu Suleiman, gave Isaac a choice of N10,000 fine and N45,000 in restitution to the complainant.
