A Lagos High Court today, Monday, 9 October, 2023, delivered judgment in the case of a police officer, Drambi Vandi, charged with shooting dead a Lagos-based lawyer, Omobolanle Raheem, on Christmas Day, December 25, 2022 in the Ajah area of Lagos. Justice Ibironke Harrison, the trial judge, in her ruling, convicted Vandi of a one-count charge of murder and thus sentenced him to death by hanging.
Vandi was arraigned on January 16, on a count of murder, but he pleaded not guilty. The court granted an accelerated hearing on the case.
The prosecution team, led by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo, called a total of 11 witnesses, including eight police officers. The other prosecution witnesses are two eyewitnesses and a pathologist.
The judge found Vandi guilty of the offence and sentenced him to death by hanging.
