Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arresttwo members of a robbery gang who are specialized in snatching motorcycle and some other gadgets along Sango, Otta and their environs.
The two were arrested after reports of series criminal acts in the area in which their cases have been reported in different police stations in the axis.
The police confirmed their arrest on Saturday, 15 May, 2021 after several futile attempts to apprehend the duo.
The Spokesman of the state Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, announced that the two suspects: Abiodun Ogundele, aged 23 and Opeyemi Olatubosun aged 22, have been arrested.
Their arrest followed a distress call received at Sango Divisional Headquarters at around 8 pm that one Adesoji David, a motorcyclist, was being attacked at Joju area of Sango Otta, by armed hooligans.
On receiving the call, the Division Police Officer for Sango Otta, Godwin Idehai, a Chief Superintendent of Police, immediately mobilized his men and moved to the scene of the incident.
On getting to the scene, the suspects, who had already snatched the victim’s Bajaj motorcycle, tried to escape but were swiftly chased down by the officers and two members of the gang were arrested while the third suspect escaped.
One locally made pistol, one live cartridge, one expended cartridge and the stolen motorcycle were recovered from the suspects.
According to Oyeyemi, the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, has ordered that the suspects be transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department at the police headquarters at Eleweran.
The police are on the trail of other members of the gang.
