Union Bank of Nigeria Plc is currently groaning over the ‘disapperance’ of N1.6 billion depositors’ money from its fault, reports thegazellenews.com
This medium learnt that top staff of the bank have been accused of colluding with a 5-man fraud syndicate outside to defraud the bank of the said amount.
The total sum involved in the alleged fraud is put at N1, 626, 139, 795.12 billion depositors’ money.
According to reports, the five man fraud syndicate comprises of two Nigerians and three Lebanese. They are: Sunil Kumar Hari Prasad, Voodi Sumaprakash and Dhanuka Sunil Kumar, all Lebanese; Ningle Kevin and Obiageli Inuwagle, Nigerians. They have all fled the country.
The alleged fraud was reported at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Alagbon, Ikoyi by the Union Bank management.
Some staff of the Bank who approved the loan have been picked up and are currently undergoing interrogation at the FCID, Alagbon, Ikoyi.
The Police have filed a three-count charge against the alleged fraudsters.
In the charge, the police alleged the fraudsters and others now at large of conspiring among themselves to obtain the sum of N1, 626, 139, 795.12 billion, from Union Bank Plc by false pretence.
The alleged fraudsters were also accused of stealing the said amount from the Bank.
The offences according to the police are “contrary to and punishable under sections 8(a), 1(a), (c) & 1(2)of the Advance Fee Fraud and other related offences Act, 2006.
“And section 390 (a) of the Criminal Code Cap C38 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.”
No date has been fixed for the arraignment of the alleged fraudsters, as the police told the court that they have fled the country and efforts to get them arrested and brought back to Nigeria is ongoing.
