The immediate past Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Lagos State University, Nigeria, Professor Elias Olukorede WAHAB, has been named Guest Speaker at the 62nd International Conference of Lewis and Clark University, Portland Oregon USA.
The event is slated for between Monday, 8 April 8, and Wednesday, 10 April, 2024 at the University Main Auditorium and will be preceded by the President Robin Holmes-Sullivan VIP dinner by 5.30pm at Smith Hall, Portland OR 97219, USA, after which the Guest Speaker will be escorted to the keynote Session on Monday, 8 April, 2024.
The University described the choice of Prof Wahab as historic and significant. The University asserted that, “his choice is a further testament on the need to have a fully bred scholar with academic culture and tradition, being an accomplished and highly ranked Sociologist and Social Scientist as a keynote speaker”.
Professor Wahab presentation will be titled “Globalization, Commodification, Marketization and Cultural Imperialism: Issues and Dimensions”.
The scholar is reputed to have spoken in over fifteen countries with thought provoking and academically inclined deep presentations. He has unparalleled staff and students mentoring skills and accomplishments.
Professor Wahab distinguished and glittering academic career spanning about three decades is expected to resonate with staff and students at the historic event, who have read his works. The NASA (Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological Practitioners Association) Fellow is a former HOD, Department of Sociology and Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Lagos State University Nigeria.
The multiple award winning University Administrator graduated with a B.Sc (Hons) from the Lagos State University in Sociology in 1995. In 1999 and 2005, he earned a Master’s Degree in Sociology with specialisation in Demography and Population Studies and PhD in Sociology with specialisation in Demography and Population Aging, both from Nigeria premier University, University of Ibadan, Nigeria respectively.
He capped it with a first Degree in Law (LLB) in 2007, from the Lagos State University Nigeria. He was retained to do his mandatory service year by the Lagos State University and became a Graduate Assistant in 1997. He rose to the pinnacle of his academic career as a full Professor of Sociology in 2014.
