Adeyemi Bero Hall, Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos State was full to the brim on Sunday, 11 August, 2024.
The event was the Haflah and valedictory ceremony for students of At-Tanzeel Schools.
The event also witnessed career session and pre-valedictory programme for graduating students, just as it also combined a career session with a pre-valedictory lecture, offering valuable insights and guidance from speakers who are experts in various career paths and informed decision-making.
Speakers invited to speak at the ceremony dwelled on inspirational talks to motivate and prepare the school graduates for their future endeavours.
The first speaker, the Executive Secretary Lagos State Scholarship Board, Hon. Abdulrahman Lekki, represented by Abdulgani Coker, spoke on opportunities for scholarships and bursaries, emphasizing the importance of maintaining top academic performance.
Additionally, an Engagement Manager at McKinsey and Company, Hajia Omodolapo Zainab Dosunmu, shared her expertise and life experience to inspire, coach, and to mentor the graduating students towards a bright future.
The ceremony began with an opening speech by the chairman of the occasion, Kamaldeen Shonibare, who congratulated the school management and the graduating students.
Shonibare , who said education is the bedrock for any human being who desire to have knowledge, added that the education the students had received, both secular and Islamic education, will help them to be great leaders of tomorrow.
In his speech, the Board Chairman of the school, Saheed Bashir, expressed appreciation to all the people present at the 2024 Haflah and 5th Valedictory Ceremony.
Bashir said the 2023/2024 operating environment in Nigeria has been characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity.
“With official food inflation nearing 50% and the Naira losing over 50% of its value against the US dollar, the disposable incomes of Nigerians, including our parents and teachers, have been severely impacted.
“This has kept our directors and management team vigilant, striving to balance the affordability of school fees with spiralling operational expenses and decent remuneration for our valued staff. Despite these challenges, we have reinforced our teaching, hostel, and management teams with additional quality personnel to ensure top-notch service quality and delivery,” he said.
Bashir, who thanked to Allah for granting them opportunity to celebrate the achievements of their beloved students and the new milestones of At-Tanzeel Schools, highlighted some accomplishments of the school in the past 12 months.
He said students of the school performed outstandingly, with 94%, 37 out of 38 students scoring 200+ marks in JAMB) and 50%, 19 out of 38; students scored 250+ marks and above, just as he also added that 5% of “our students ranked in the top 0.5% of those who scored above 300. Only one student out of 38 scored below 200 marks”
According to him, following significant investments in science laboratories and other infrastructure, At-Tanzeel Schools is now a certified as Cambridge International School.
Bashir said the accreditation allows the prestigious Cambridge International curriculum, recognized worldwide “for its excellence and rigour, preparing our students for scholarships and admissions to foreign colleges and universities.
He also disclosed that the school has invested in a state-of-the-art CBT Centre for WAEC, GCE, Cambridge, and other external examinations, enhancing exam logistics and the sanctity of examination outcomes within our facilities.
On extra-curricular and sporting Activities, the school board chairman said “ we have increased our focus on sports, completing a standard basketball court and participating in various competitions, inside and outside the school. We intend to build on these achievements in the coming sessions, insha’Allah.
On Hufaadh (Quranic memorisers) and other milestones, Bashir said this year, the school is celebrating six students who have completed their Qur’an memorization, certified by external assessors.
In his own speech earlier at the august ceremony, the Head Teacher of the School, Ibrahim Sonola, said the event was a milestone and testament to the resilience and academic pursuit by the students.
Sonola, who thanked the management and Board of the School for all the support in providing conducive environment for learning, congratulate the students and prayed that their exit will be a stepping stone to greater heights and source of inspiration.
He acknowledged that the journey was challenging but overcome through collective determination , adding that the students demonstrate perseverance during their studies.
The Head Teacher, who enjoined the students to continue to seek knowledge in order to remain relevant in the current dynamic world, disclosed that the partnership from the parents are enormous while thanking the Elites Class of 2024, adding the school is proud of them.

As a mere primary with nine pupils in 2010, At-Tanzel schools have grown into a remarkable group of schools with primary and secondary schools with section for Qur’anic memorisation.
