Higher education is tertiary education leading to the award of an academic degree. Higher education, which makes up a component of post-secondary, third-level, or tertiary education, is an optional final stage of formal learning that occurs after completion of secondary education. This consists of universities, colleges and polytechnics that offer formal degrees beyond high school or secondary school education.
Many will take the path of education and many will take other paths like; business, handwork, entrepreneurship and so on. However, if you are among those who will take the path of education, this piece is for you.
In Nigeria, the process of gaining admission into higher institution (University) is a different journey on its own. From the step of acquiring your o-level result either WAEC or NECO to JAMB examination before going for SCREENING or POST-UTME depends on the institution’s strategic form of admitting new students.
This is to prepare and inform you that; to acquire higher education, a lot of effort is required. Right from your physical effort, mental effort, to your psychological effort.
Moving on, higher institution (University) where higher education is being taught, is a place where wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of life and reality is being taught. A place that develop human’s critical thinking, logical reasoning, and different kinds of effective skills that help develop individual’s intellect.
It is not just a University, it is a place, an organizational bodies that help develop human’s intellectual ability with a certified honor of the area of specialization.
However, the certificate is just a receipt from the University that you have acquired the knowledge you seek for, while the knowledge, understanding, skills, potentials, abilities you acquired are the products you get the receipt. The products should be your goal or target to acquire not the certificate.
To demystify higher institution (University) in order for the applicants whom their aim is to be a graduate and not to be certified only, higher institution (University) requires a lot of efforts, strength, endurance, patience, smartness, and of course financial support in order to successfully achieve higher education.
Efforts: Effort should be make in all aspects especially in reading whether it’ll held well or not, always put in your efforts.
Strength: Proper care of oneself is required. It is when you’re healthy you’ll be able to learn comfortably.
Endurance: As a student, you should learn to endure because you’ll get to a stage where you’ll feel like giving up due to one reason or the other. If you give up, what’s the essence of all the efforts you’ve put in? Never give up.
Patience: As a student, be patient. Lack of being patient can make lead to failure.
Smartness: As a student, you have to be smart in all aspects. Learn to think differently.
Financial Support: Very necessary you are under someone sponsorship, someone who you can always call upon whenever you need financial assistance.
In conclusion, higher education is the best you can get to develop your ethical self and intellectual ability. Applicants should be prepared physically, mentally, and psychologically in order to achieve his/her aims or goals.
