The Nigerian Army Ordinance Corps (NAOC) has initiated a collaborative relationship with the Yaba College of Technology towards accomplishing its set goals in the areas of polymer, textile and printing.
This was accomplished at a courtesy visit to the management and tour of facilities of the college by the Corps led by its Commander, Major General Jonathan Ugwuoke in company of his formidable team from the rank of brigadier generals downwards, held at the Council Chamber.
Speaking during the visit, Major General Jonathan Ugwuoke said that NAOC is saddled with the responsibility of providing technical support to the defense forces in the areas of procurement, storage and distribution of army uniforms. Also, the inspection, maintenance, repair and disposal of all items of the Nigerian Army related equipment.
For quality assurance and sustenance of the army uniforms’ standard, NAOC looks inward to source for materials locally produced by indigenous manufacturers for supply in order to boost the economy of the nation; said the Commander.
The samples of the materials, he said, are being sent to Yaba College of Technology Polymer and Textile Department for quality control and result from such guides the Corps in awarding the contract for supplies.
He declared that Yaba College of Technology is being cultivated to produce and supply the uniforms of the Nigerian Army all over the federation having certified the endorsed quality and standard set by the Nigerian army.
Major General Ugwuoke noted that they are looking forward to have a robust relationship with the seventy-seven years old institution, known for quality education; provision of first-rate academic, professional and entrepreneurial education for the positive impact in the technological and socio-economic development of the country and bridging the gap between the town and gown.
The NAOC Commander was very elated by the achievements of the institution and sourced for expansion of the partnership to the college School of Art Design and Printing (SADP) for printing of the Nigerian Army forms, schools’ note books and exercise books for the primary and secondary schools of the Nigerian Army.
The Rector, Yaba College of Technology, Dr. Engr. Ibraheem Abdul represented by the Deputy Rector, Administration, Mr. Uduak Iyang-Udoh said that “collaboration and interaction with industries within and outside the country is our mandate”.
The graduates of the college, he said, are for the outside world, therefore “we must prepare them for the industries, as our hands are wide open for more partnership, and we are bound to sustain beneficial relationship with our partners”.
He thanked NAOC for the initiative to partner with the college which is another medium to boost her internally generated revenue.
Inyang-Udo assured Major General Ugwuoke and his team that the relationship will be sustained and would not be taken for granted.
