Reminiscent stories and nostalgic recapture of their days in school capped with colourful display of hospitality were the order of the day on Thursday, 13 January, 2022 as the Class of 77/78 Set of the Ahmadiyya College Agege Old Students’ Association (ACAOSA) commissioned the newly refurbished Alhaji Adisa Gbadamosi Library in the school.
It was a gathering of who is who in the society who have worn the all white uniform of the first Islamic Secondary School in West Africa in the past.
Prominent among them are: Retired Justice Ishola Olorunnimbe, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Senator Felix Kola Bajomo, Retired Major General Tajudeen Olanrewaju, the man who led the school’s football team to its first Principal Cup victory in 1966, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Otunba Femi Pedro, former Solicitor-General of the state, Barrister Lawal Pedro, SAN; the President of Anwar Ul Islam Movement of Nigeria, Barrister Mubashir Ojelade; the National General Secretary of ACAOSA Worldwide, Alhaji Olayiwola Tijani; former Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Alhaji Azeez Sanni; Federal Commissioner in the Federal Character Commission, Abdul Wasii Kayode Bawaala; ex-Super Eagles player, Waheed Akanni; ex-Internsitonal Rahman Alarape; Osun SUBEB member, Musbau Oladejo; CEO of Courage Photos, Alhaji Ganiyu Taiwo Courage; FCMB big boy, Rafiu Muhammed and ace journalist, Yinka Aromasodun among others.
Speaking at the event, the President General of ACAOSA Worldwide, Barrister Lawal Pedro, SAN; commended the 77/78 of which he is also a member, for the gesture.
He stated that it is always commendable to give back to the institutions which mould one into a better person in life. “We are very proud to have passed through this great school and we can say confidently that what we learnt in this school has moulded us into better people in the society, hence the need for us to always give back to the school,” he said.
Barrister Pedro advised other sets of ACAOSA to emulate the 77/78 and of other sets giving back to the school in various capacity.
“All hands must be on deck to continue to lift this school and our old students must rise to the occasion,” he said.
Speaking later, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, who majorly sponsored the project, described the library project as a dream come true noting that as a school that laid the foundation for his progress in life, nothing is too big to give back to that institution.
The President of the 77/78 Set and ex-International Footballer, Rahman Alarape, who was nicknamed Master of the Field during his playing days in the school and outside for his outrageous skills on the ball, stated that members of the set was spurred by the need to give back to the school which made what they are in the society today.
“It is our joy that this project is being commissioned today and I want to assure that we will not stop here and we will not rest on our oars in giving back to this school,” he said.
The Chairman of the Planning Committee for the and Federal Commissioner in the Federal Character Commission, Honourable Kayode Bawaala expressed happiness that the project finally became a reality commending members of the planning committee for their steadfastness, commitment and sacrifice in ensuring that the project was completed.
Rep Member, Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro, donated 20 laptops for to the library at the event.
