Yaba College of Technology, matriculates a total number of Eight thousand, two hundred and two (8,202) candidates admitted to the Yaba College of Technology for the 2023/2024 academic session for full-time to study various courses being offered in the Institution.
The number admitted was out of a total number of 21, 530 candidates that applied for admission.
The Rector, Dr. Engr. Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul disclosed this figures in his address delivered at the college’s 2023/2024 academic session matriculation ceremon’
He added that a total number of one thousand three hundred and thirty-five (1,335) candidates applied for the Bachelor of Science (B. Sc (Ed) Education programmes of the college in affiliation with the Nigeria University, Nsukka and only Five hundred and seven (507) candidates were offered admission for in the School of Technical Education.
According to him, in Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes of the college, a total number of five thousand six hundred and eighty-five (5,685) candidates applied but a total number of three thousand, three hundred and forty-two (3,342) candidates were admitted.
He expatiated that at National Diploma (ND) level a total number of fourteen thousand five hundred and ten (14,510) applied for admission, while four thousand, three hundred and fifty-three (4,353) candidates were admitted having been found successful in the Mandatory Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), and the screening conducted by the College to further ascertain and strengthen the quality of candidates being admitted to the school for the 2023/2024 Academic Session.
Dr. Abdul admonished the students that ‘as you step through the doors of this institution, you are not just students; you are future leaders, innovators, and change-makers. The journey that you are about to undertake will be filled with challenges and triumphs, and it is a journey that will shape not only your academic and professional lives but also your character and values’’.
Here in Yaba College of Technology, he said, ‘’we pride ourselves on fostering an environment that encourages innovation, critical thinking, and creativity and you will be surrounded by distinguished Lecturers who are not only experts in their fields but also passionate about nurturing the next generation of scholars. You are encouraged to engage with them, ask questions, and make the most out of the resources available to you’’.
The Rector elucidated that in the College, 75% lecture attendance is a perquisite that qualifies students to write examination at the end of the semester and any student that fails to meets the mandatory requirement will not be admitted for examination. You are therefore advised to attend lectures regularly to qualify to write examination.
The Chairman, Governing Council of the institution, Professor ‘Funso Isolaowa Afolabi, in his address encouraged the matriculants to take full advantage of the resources available to them, engaged in academic and extracurricular activities, seek guidance and collaborate with their peers.
He advised the students to remember that education is not confined to the classroom alone as it is enriched by their experiences, interactions and exploration beyond textbooks.
He emphasized on the importance of values, integrity, respect and responsibilityand to uphold them as the cornerstones of becoming not just successful professionals but also responsible citizens of Nigeria. Adding that as you grow and learn, let these principles guide your actions and decisions.
To the parents and guardians at the event, Professor Afolabi lauded their unwavering support and for believing in their children and as your children take this significant step, we commend you for your role in their achievement.
The Governing Council Chairman once again pleaded with the new students to embrace the challenges ahead with courage and confidence as their will be times of difficulty, but to always remember that every challenge is an opportunity for growth.
He averred that the students should draw on the strength of the college community and know that they are never alone on their journey.
As you begin this exciting chapter of your lives, keep in mind the vision and mission of the College. Let us strive together toward excellence, inclusivity and innovation, he declared.
