Children in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area, have begun practice sessions at the ongoing Yoruba summer class, sponsored by the council chairman, Hon. Fatai Adekunle Ayoola.
The 2-week education and orientation programme, which is hosted by award winning actor and TV host, Dr. Feyikemi Niyi-Olayinka, will refine the Yoruba speaking skills among pupils between the ages of 3 and 14 years.
Speaking at the venue of the summer camp in St. Mary Nur/Pry School, Abukuru, Dr. Feyikemi said children will become better if parents are deliberate towards communicating with their wards in their mother tongue.
The ‘O’leku’ award winning actor added that the learning of mother tongue by kids becomes easier in their formative stages.
“Learning of Yoruba is easier for kids in their formative stage.
“Kids learn better and faster with imaginative teaching tools.
“And I can assure you, these two weeks will make them better in speaking Yoruba appropriately. “
Dr. Feyikemi who is also a regular TV presenter of ‘Owuro Lawa’ with LTV8, pleaded with parents on the need to sustain the gains of the Yoruba summer class.
She said: “Our efforts can be consolidated if the parents will ensure their wards speak Yoruba at home regularly.”
