Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has revealed his late father and the pioneer of Afrobeats, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, had over 100 concubines, just as he also encouraged men to embrace polygamy, stressing that every man should have multiple women.
Kuti said people only knew of Fela’s 27 wives, but they didn’t know of his over 100 concubines who were living in his house.
The musician stated this on the latest episode of the ‘Bahd & Boujee’ Podcast co-hosted by reality star Tolanibaj and actress Moet Abebe.
“People only know of Fela’s 27 wives, they don’t know of his over 100 girlfriends that lived with us in the house,” he remarked.
Recall that Seun Kuti recently revealed that his late father, Fela, married 27 women on the same day in a bid to preserve their honour and dignity as the media was already tagging his female dancers and band members living with him as “prostitutes”.
Fela got married to 27 women in one day back in 1978 in what was seen as a very daring move.
Controversial Nigerian musician Seun Kuti has downplayed monogamy, saying it “doesn’t work”.
The Afrobeat crooner also encouraged men to embrace polygamy, stressing that every man should have multiple women.
Seun, who claimed that having multiple women demonstrates power and affluence, said, “Monogamy doesn’t work. As a powerful man, you must have the support of numerous powerful goddesses. You know, women that are in your life because the ancestors want to put them there. You share with them.”
He added that his late father and Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, had over 100 concubines despite marrying 27 women in one day.
Seun Kuti is publicly known to be married to one woman; his wife, Yetunde Kuti.
