Famous Nigerian singer, Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, popularly addressed as Skales, has claimed that his colleague and former record label mate, Wizkid, never liked him, just as he also claimed that he inspired Burna Boy.
According to him, he has always felt repelling energy from Whizkid
Skales stated this while speaking in a recent episode of the ‘Listen’ podcast, and during recent interview with Naija FM, Lagos.
The ‘Shake Body’ exponent recounted his social media fallout with Wizkid years ago.
“I have always felt that Wizkid didn’t like me. I don’t know why but there were occasions where he showed his dislike for me.
“If you go back and check the our social media fallout, I think I was doing a ‘question-and-answer’ session on Twitter and somebody said, ‘What’s up with your guy Wiz?’ And jokingly, I said, ‘My brother Wiz does not have my time anymore.’ From there, Wizkid started insulting me, my father and my mother. That’s to show you that he probably had me in mind. He said I wear fake jewellery. That time, I wasn’t the one replying, it was my ex-girlfriend.
“I pick my battles. When I know that people will believe anything you say, I don’t need to fight you. Because whatever I say, they are going to say I am jealous. They are going to say I am envious of Wizkid’s success. And that was the story that was going round. I sat down recently and said, ‘This guy [Wizkid] really don’t like me.’ I have tried to make peace with him but he was adamant. He didn’t like me, I can tell you for a fact.”
Skales in his interview with Naija FM, Lagos, also claimed that he inspired his colleague, Burna Boy, at some point in his career.
According to him, before he featured Burna Boy on ‘Temper Remix’ in 2017, the Port Harcourt-born singer had no hit song.
Skales who added that Burna Boy has also inspired him over the years, also explained that the essence of collaboration is to support and promote each other.
“I inspired Burna Boy. He will agree with me. So, nobody help anybody. We probably admire ourselves and we decide to work together.
“As at then, Burna boy had no hot song before I featured him on ‘Temper Remix.’
“It was after our collaboration that he started excelling. I’m not trying to take credit for his success but he has inspired me over the years and I believe I inspired him at a point, too,” Skales said.
