The Lagos State Ministry of Health has commenced meetings with traditional authorities in the state in its efforts to have a better rapport and synergy on a free cancer health outreach programme targeted at young females within the age categories of 9-15 years.
The health enlightenment programme which is a new development was with view of mitigating the effects of cancer related health challenges ravaging rural and urban communities in the state.
In continuation of the programme, a visiting team from the state Ministry of Health paid a courtesy call on the traditional ruler of Atan-nla community in the Ayobo Ipaja Local Council Development Area of the state.
The team was led by health educator, Mrs Balogun. She reiterated that the advocacy was specifically targeted at young female teenagers in the bid to spread awareness about the killer disease.
She appealed to the royal authorities and residents on the crucial importance of the outreach programme with much emphasis on the peculiarities of the cancer health awareness initiative which is totally different from ORB immunisation programme embarked by health officials in the past.
She thus harped on the need for parents and guardians to seize the opportunity to not only to key into the programme but also enrol their female wards within the target age bracket in other to access the cancer healthcare delivery package once it landed in Atan and Ashipa communities.
The Baale of Ashipa community, High Chief Jelili Akinkule Amusa who was present at the meeting, commended the visiting health team for bringing such laudable initiative embarked upon by the Lagos State Government to grassroot folks.
Also speaking in same vein was the Baale of the host community, Atan-nla, High Chief Sufianu Odewole lauded Governor Sanwo-olu for prioritising welfare of the people in accordance with his T.H.E.M.E.S. Agenda.
He commended the Governor for his health intervention programmes which were directed at easing the pains of the people of the people of the state.
