The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Kogi Command, disclosed that it has released the charred remains of the 13 victims of the Obajana Easter Sunday auto-crash to their families for burial.
The Sector Commander, Mr Samuel Oyedeji, made this disclosure during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) in Lokoja, the state capital on Thursday, 4 April, 2024 that the corpses were handed over to the families on Wednesday, 3 April, 2024
Recall that the 13 victims died in a Sharon vehicle which was engulfed by fire at Obajana market on Easter Sunday when a truck hit the vehicle from behind.
Two persons who were injured in the auto crash are receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the state.
”We were contemplating giving the victims a mass burial here in Lokoja if their relatives don’t come forward to claim the charred bodies.
“As we were discussing with the Police and the authorities of Lokoja Local Government, we received a call from the owner of the affected Sharon bus, and shortly after that, we got to know that the victims were all from Plateau.
”The families demanded that the bodies be released to them for burial; consequently, the bodies were released to them on Wednesday and they got a bus which helped to move them to Jos,” he said.
Oyedeji sympathised with the victims’ families and prayed to God to give them the desired comfort and strength to bear the loss.
