A Magistrate Court presided over by Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi, sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State on Tuesday, 27 August, 2024 remanded a 76-year-old man, Akeem Muritala, in a correction centre for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl.
The Chief Magistrate, Ogunkanmi, ordered that the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice, just as he also adjourned the case until 23 October, 2024 for further hearing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Gbemisola Adedeji, told the court that Muritala committed the offence in July in the Isale-Afa area of Ibadan and that the defendant narrated the abuse to the police.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 34 of the Child Rights Law 2006.
