A former councilor in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Mutiu Akinbami, has been killed by suspected cultists, reports TheGazelleNews.com
He was murdered on Friday, 15 November, 2024.
Akinbami, popularly known as Egor, was reportedly attacked at the Brewery area of Abeokuta around 6:00 p.m. and shot in the head while riding a motorcycle.
The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the sad incident through a statement issued to newsmen on Saturday, 16 November, 2024.
“The Divisional Police Office of Lafenwa received a report at about 6:40 p.m. that Mutiu Akinbami, a resident of Olomore Housing Estate, had been shot near the Brewery.
“The deceased was riding home on a motorcycle when he was shot from behind by one of the masked occupants of an unregistered white-tinted glass Hilux.
“The divisional police officer quickly mobilized patrol teams to the location and transported the victim to Ijaiye General Hospital, Abeokuta, where a doctor confirmed him dead,” Odutola stated.
She further disclosed that the deceased was a former staff member of the Federal College of Education, Osiele, in Abeokuta, and had been listed as a wanted person.
“Arrests have been made, and further details will be provided as investigations continue,” the state police image-maker added.
