Gunmen invaded Garbatau, a village in Bali local government area of Taraba State, killed a farmer and abducted six others
The deceased, identified as Alhaji Mai Wanda Maibultu, was reportedly attacked and killed on his farm by the bandits.
A source said that Maibultu, a prominent large-scale farmer, resided in a village a few kilometres from Garba Chede town, while the six abducted farmers were seized along Garbatau village, a farming settlement situated between two mountains.
The source further explained that a resident of Maihula town, Adamu Dauda, disclosed that the kidnappers had contacted the families of the victims, demanding a ransom of N100 million.
“Similar attacks occurred around this time last year when hundreds of kidnappers invaded the area, abducting dozens of farmers and disrupting the harvest season,” he stated,
He lamented that history appeared to be repeating itself, with the kidnappers once again halting farmers’ efforts to harvest their crops by killing and abducting others.
As at the time of filling this report, the Taraba State Police Command has yet to comment on the development.
