On Sunday, 3 December, 2023, Ilupeju Road witnessed the successful implementation of a programme orchestrated by the Rasak Ajala led Odiolowo-Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area in collaboration with Smart Gas, a non-governmental organization.
The initiative ensured the distribution of over a thousand cylinders and burners to the community, in exchange for refuse generated by the residents.
The event unfolded on Ilupeju Road, Ilupeju, with many residents coming with their refuse packed into refuse bags. The bags are submitted in exchange for the gas and burner.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the LCDA, Hon Razaq Olusola Ajala remarked, “This programme underscores our unwavering dedication to creating a society we can all take pride in. It aligns with Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu’s sustainable development goals and our electoral commitments.”
Ajala emphasized the campaign significance in poverty reduction and safety, stating, “Aligned with the objectives of sustainable development, our aim is to diminish poverty and inequality, safeguard the planet, and ensure the well-being of our people.”
He urged the community to adopt fossil fuels over traditional wood and charcoal, noting that, “Fossil energy is an environmentally friendly alternative. The government provides these items at no cost, allowing residents to allocate their funds elsewhere, thereby contributing to poverty reduction.”
Furthermore, Ajala encouraged the populace to embrace these items for a healthier and safer environment.
“Health is wealth, and utilizing fossil fuels promotes a friendly living space. Through initiatives like Trash for Gas, we empower the community while fostering a clean and healthy environment,” he said.
Ajala highlighted additional LCDA programs, including bursaries, skill acquisition, loans, grants, and food palliatives, aimed at mitigating the impact of oil subsidy removal.
Beneficiaries were reminded not to sell the provided items, and the distribution ceremony featured key figures such as Vice Chairman of the Council, Hon Seyi Jakande; the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Rilwan Ola Ajenifuja; the Deputy Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Lola Idowu; Councillors; the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Mujeeb Ayinde Daramola; the Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Mr. Martins Elijah; and Supervisory Councillors.
Also in attendance were representatives of the All Progressive Congress (APC) including the party Chairman in the LCDA, Hon. Ismail Babatunde Kazeem (TUNKAZ); and Secretary, Hon. Mustapha Adeola Olaniyan.
