The Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area of Lagos State is enmeshed in internal crisis which has led to the staff of the council embarking on mini strike action, reports The Gazelle News.com.
This medium learnt that on Thursday, 24 June, 2021, the private revenue collector employed by the council chairman, Soyoye allegedly slapped the Second Signatory to the council account, Gbadamosi Muritala.
According to our source, the Second Signatory had raised question on why some vehicles will be parked in the secretariat without paying the mandatory fee put in place by the council.
The Revenue Collector, employed by the Chairman, allegedly not only confronted the Second Signatory but also allegedly slapped him.
This created confusion and chaos in the council and staff embarked on mini staff in protest against the action of the revenue collector. Thus, the council secretariat was put under lock and key on Thursday, 24 and Friday, 25 June, 2021.
On Monday, members of the state chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) led by the state President, Comrade Afolabi Semako Ajose stormed the council secretariat in solidarity protest with their counterparts.
As early as 8am, 10 representatives from NULGE branches in Lagos stormed the Itire-Ikate LCDA secretariat in protest.
As at the time of writing this report, the leadership of the union are locked in brain storming meeting with the management of the council led by the Chairman, Ahmed Apatira.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission has waded into the crisis as management staff of the Council have been summoned to appear before the members on later on Monday, 28 June, 2021.
