Chairman of Odiolowo-Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, Hon Rasaq Olusola Ajala on Wednesday, 13 December, 2023, paid courtesy visit to Area D Police Command and three prominent police stations in the council area: Alakara, Olosan, and Ilupeju.
This gesture marks a transformative step towards fostering collaboration between local governance and law enforcement.
At the Area D Command, ACP Bamidele Awoniyi expressed his astonishment at the Chairman’s dedication to community security.
Acknowledging the pervasive stereotype of Mushin, he emphasized the need to change this narrative and avoid profiling residents based on location.
“My first encounter with the Chairman was cordial, and I saw that he is passionate about security, because businesses and activities in the community can never thrive without the security of lives and property,” he stated.
Hon. Ajala reciprocated the sentiment, commending the Area Commander for proactive security measures and promising ongoing governmental support.
“To let the world know that Mushin is not about negativity, it is not synonymous to the social vices but a reflection of what is obtainable in the other clime where we have the good, the bad and the ugly in the society,” Ajala noted.
He commended the police in the state in general for making it safe as it has been on the record that the State has not recorded a single bank robbery in the past four years.
Hon Ajala commended the command for the vital role they played during the ENDSARS saga.
“While other industrial areas were looted, none of the factory or industry were touched during this period,” he said.
He announced the yuletide package for the officers and personnel in the command as a token for their services even they are not directly under the purview of the LCDA.
At Olosan Police Station, the Divisional Police Officer, ÀSP Garba Oseni welcomed the Chairman and his team to the station.
He appreciated the Chairman for the kind gesture and the support he has been given to the station.
He however want the council Boss to do more especially in the area of patrol vehicle and equipping of the rest room within the station.
In his response, Hon Ajala thanked the Divisional Police Officer and his men for the great services they have been providing the LCDA.
He promised the station that the government would do its best to provide the needed support within the resources at its disposal.
“We are going to provide the needed support for the station to improve your efficiency in crime management
“I am happy to inform you that your station would benefit from the three hundred vehicles that the State under our amiable governor Mr Babajide Sanwoolu would be providing for the police divisions across the State,” he said.
“You would recall it was difficult to transact businesses in the Banks around Mushin in the time past
“One would rather go to different locations because of the situation around here then, but that has become things of the past because of your efficiency in our community,” he said.
Furthering the courtesy visit, the team also visited Alakara police station in Idioro.
The Divisional Police Officer of the station, ÀSP Adeola Agidi welcomed the Chairman to its station.
He commended the Chairman for always supporting them.
He promised the team that their services would be improved with the support and dedication of the LCDA.
“You have been doing tremendously well for our men but like Oliver Twist,we would be asking for more,” he stated.
In his response, Hon Ajala stated that the team was there to thank, appreciate and commend them for the services they have been provided for the people of the LCDA.
“The fundamental responsibility of any government is to protect lives and property of its citizens
“You will recall that in the time past, people from Idioro could not go to Fadeyi, or Ilupeju and vise versa
” We are happy that that has become things of the past due to the excellent services you have been providing
” I am proud to say that this has improved the Economic development of our Area
“I owe it to the excellent performance of your men,” he noted.
The last point of call was the Ilupeju Police Station in Ilupeju area of the LCDA.
The Divisional Police Officer of the station, SP Matilda Ngbaronye welcomed the Chairman and his team to the station.
She stated the that the Chairman of the LCDA has been given the station unflinching support since she has assumed office.
“There has never been a time we would call on him for one thing or another that he would not acceded to them
“The support we have been receiving from the LCDA is unprecedented as I met some Operational vehicles which was said to have been given by the government of Hon Rasaq Ajala
“Just recently, he has given large sum of money to purchase brand new tyres for the operational vehicles in the station,” she said.
She appeal to the people to always call on them on any issue related to the security in the community.
Responding, Hon Ajala thanked the Divisional Police Officer in the station and her men for the great services they have been providing.
“Ilupeju Police Division happened to be a standard benchmark that all other stations are using to define what a police station within and beyond the country should be
“I recall there was a time the station was voted the best Police Division in Africa and this speak volume of the quality of services this station has been providing
“The issue of cultism was prevalent in this vicinity before the coming of the DPO but with her qualitative leadership, the activities has become the things of the past,” he said.
He commended her and her team for the services and announced the yuletide package for all the men under her division.
While fielding questions from the journalists, SP Matilda Ngbaronye stated that she and her men are excited to receive the Chairman and his team.
She promised that they will double their efforts and be more proactive than being reactive henceforth.
On the coming yuletide season, she stated that there has been jingles from the division.
“We have associated and Communicated with the people, doing stakeholders meeting with them that “If they see something they must say something,” she concluded.
At the entourage of the Chairman was his Vice, Hon Seyi Jakande; Leader of the Legislative Arm of government, Hon Rilwan Ola Ajenifuja and the Councillors; Secretary to the LCDA, Hon Mujeeb Ayinde Daramola; the Supervisors; Council Manager, Mrs Afolake Otenaike; Council Treasurer, Mr Rufai Mujitaba Karohunwi; Head of Public Affairs Unit, Mrs Oreoluwa Gbinigie; and Aides to the Chairman.
