At least seven persons have lost their lives while 15 others sustained injuries in a road accident at Ijaye on Ibadan/Iseyin.
The Deputy Corps Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Oyo State Sector Command, Tunde Adewale, made this disclosure at the state Sector Command office, Eleyele, Ibadan on Friday, 17 May, 2024.
Adewale said the incident occurred shortly after Ijaye town in the Akinyele Local Government Area of the state on Thursday, 16 May, 2024.
According to him, the accident involved two commercial vehicles with the number plates SEY 254 XY Nissan white coloured bus and LGB 343 XA Mazda white colour bus with 22 occupants before the incident.
Adewale, who said the accident involved eight male adults, 12 female adults and two children, explained further that five male adults, one female adult, and one female child were confirmed dead in the accident.
Adewale attributed the incident to a head-on collision during a downpour.
He added that the injured ones were currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital while the corpses had been deposited at the morgue.
“The accident involved 22 people. Seven died and 15 were injured. The two categories were commercial vehicles. They had a head-on collision as a result of a heavy fall of rain shortly after Ijaye town.
“It involved a Nissan commercial bus, with registration number, SEY 254 XY, and a Mazda commercial bus with registration number, LGB 343 XA. Five male adults, one female adult and one female child all died in the accident,” Adewale said.
The DCC, therefore, urged motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations and also adhere strictly to all traffic cautions on the road to prevent avoidable crashes.
However, it was gathered that four of the seven corpses of the victims had been claimed by their families, while the remaining three are still at the mortuary.
