The Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Cornelius Oyefolu Ojelabi has praised the Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area, Mayor Dele Osinowo for his excellent performance in office, reports thegazellenews.com
Ojelabi spoke on Monday, 3 June, 2024 at Alapere at the launch of the ‘WeLift’, an empowerment programme initiated by Osinowo to lift petty traders in the council area to support their businesses.
The Lagos APC Chairman stated that though Osinowo was ‘unknown’ when his name came up for the chairmanship slot, the party did due diligence check and found out that he is a young man who can execute the ideals and programmes of the party at the grassroots level.
“Since your assumption of office, from what we’ve heard from residents, party leaders and even your associates, you’ve not disappointed us in the confidence we repose in you. We’re proud of you, we’re proud of what you’ve been doing and we really commend you for your efforts in ensuring that the people of your council enjoy real dividends of democracy,” the Lagos APC Chairman said.
Ojelabi urged the beneficiaries of the programme not to see the money as their own share of the proverbial ‘national cake’ but as a means to improve their businesses.
“Spend this money you’re given judiciously, mainly for the purpose it is meant for. Don’t close doors on others because it’s what you did with your own money that will determine whether others will get or not,” he said.
Speaking earlier, Mayor Osinowo stated that the programme is meant to give petty traders in the council area a lift in their businesses.
“We know there are some businesses that need just little lift to blossom and that was why we have to come up with this programme.
“It’s devoid of party affiliation, the only critarion you need is for you to be a resident of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA,” he said.
The programme was executed in conjunction with Providus Bank and over 400 traders were lifted at the programme as they received their alerts from the bank at the programme.
Each beneficiary was paid N50,000.
Over 3,600 residents have benefitted from the various cash empowerment programmes of the Osinowo led Agboyi-Ketu LCDA meant to lift their various businesses.
