An international organisation with headquarters in the United States of America, Women in Africa has called on fellow women not to lay back in economic activities.
The President of the organisation, Barrister Ivie Ihensekhien-Eraga in a special message to all members across Africa said, women are the major instrument that can ensure true development of the society.
The President lamented bitterly on the way most women depend on the husbands for the upkeep of the family. She said, though it is the responsibility of the men to provide for the family but, the global economic challenge can not allow men alone to provide for all the needs, hence the contribution of their wives.
“Women in Africa is calling on women to engage in vocation that will enhance stable economy in our homes. You can see that homes are presently facing serious issues all over the World, Africa is worse because our women do not see the need to be economically stable. This has led to unthinkable situations in family, we have seen situation where spouses are fighting on trivial issues that escalate into , separation, divorce and even sudden demise of either of the parties,” she said.
Eraga however charged all zonal leaders across Africa to think of what to do in empowering members of the organization.
“I want to commend some of leaders for their contributions so far. You know as the Mother General, I am a Legal Practitioner, I have leaders who are police officers, psychologists and many others. This 2024 will be dedicated for more training to see our women change the narratives across board,” she assured.
The President who was speaking at the end of the 2023 Get Together of the organisation expressed passion to further support vulnerable members financially to making them to be useful for themselves, their family and society at large. The message was communicated via the social media.
At the Ghana zone event monitored by our West Africa’s Head of Bureau, the Leader, Dr Toyin Owopade challenged members to work assiduously to promoting the core value abd vision of the organisation. She said the Mother General will be happy seeing “each of us making difference in any area of life that we are all engaged in”.
She said that the Ghana chapter will ensure that more members are encouraged to join the organisation. She commended all the officers for their efforts in re-writing the story of women. ‘
She also commended the organisation’s Secretary General, Joy Otuomaojie- Nwaokoro; and the Leader of Delta State in Nigeria, Abbey-Kalio Imatitikua Mavis for their good efforts in building the organisation with the President.
