The General Manager of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) Dimeji Lawal and the club’s Technical Adviser, Gbenga Ogunbote, on Tuesday, 25 June, 2024, heaped praises on the team’s players for their performance in the just concluded 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
Speaking during a parley with the players at the club’s Jericho office, they both described the inability of the team to make it to the continent as painful.
Addressing the players on behalf of the management, Kabongo, as the 3SC GM is fondly called, said it was so sad the efforts to seal a continental ticket did not yield.
“I believe we did our best to get the ticket to the continent but it was painful we couldn’t get it despite fighting till the last day of the season.
“I wept immediately I discovered we didn’t make it. It’s been a long time that I felt so sad but I must praise you for your commitment and doggedness, even though I still believe that little mistakes cost us our main target,” stated the ex international.
The FIFA U-17 and U-20 World Cup silver medallists, urged the players, especially those who will still be with the team, to get prepared for the next season, with the sole aim of winning a silverware come next season.
“For those who will still be with this team next season, I want to task you to brace up for a more rewarding campaign and for those who will be leaving, make sure you make positive impact wherever you go. I wish you all the best,” he said.
Earlier, the Technical Adviser of the team, Gbenga Ogunbote held a meeting with the players where the just concluded season was reviewed with a view to preparing the ground for a successful campaign next season.
The meeting had in attendance, all the coaches, players and backroom staff.
