As the race towards clinching the prestigious stool of Owa Obokun is gradually gaining momentum, Arimoro Family, has concluded arrangements to submit Prince Kayode Micheal Adewale Arimoro’s name as the first line Candidate for ratification by the Kingmakers.
In a transparent selection process, conducted by a three- man Committee, and endorsed by Arimoro Family, Prince Adesoji Joseph Arimoro also emerged the runner-up, indicating that the family presented only two candidates, an evidence of strong internal cohesion.
Under the new arrangement, it is the turn of Bilaro Oluodo Ruling House to present the next Owa Obokun of Ijesha land.
Within the dynasty, there are four lineages: Ofokutu, Ajimoko, Arimoro and Fajemisin. At a recent meeting, Bilaro dynasty, directed each of the Lineages to present its Omo Oye (eligible candidates for the throne). Bilaro-in-council will only recognize candidate sent to it by the leadership of each Lineage.
A reliable source, who pleaded anonymity, explained that the three-man committee screened the two candidates.
“It is the desire of Arimoro family to present very strong candidates. Due to this, a three – man screening panel was constituted in which Otunba Busuyi Kayode Arimoro was the Chairman. Other members were Chief Adebisi Ajijedidun-Arimoro and Princess Olusola Adeyemi Arimoro. After all essential conditions were met, two highly qualified candidates were thoroughly screened on a ten-point deliverables.
“At the end of the exercise, Prince Kayode Michael Arimoro came first with 84%. The runner- up, Prince Adesoji Joseph Arimoro scored 70.3%. The house decided that the first line candidate of the family is Prince Kayode Michael Arimoro.
“Meanwhile, the House agreed that the name of Prince Adesoji Joseph Arimoro should also be sent to the Dynasty. These are our best in this circumstance and the lineage will back either of the two that emerges after the Kingmakers’ scrutiny, which will involve ifa (divination) in line with our age-long tradition,” said the source .
Speculation is making rounds that each candidate that aspires to compete for the position of Owa Obokun in the four ruling houses, should buy an intention form at the Local Government Council at humongous cost of N11 million each. Watchers of activities in all the ruling houses were quick to condemn such a move, describing it as extortionist and capable of reducing the revered position of Owa Obokun to partisan politics.
