Ayedatiwa, the Acting Governor of Ondo State, has been subjected to castigation and criticism recently. However, it is important to examine the reasons behind this criticism and whether it is justified. One of the main points of contention is the alleged misuse of palliative funds.
However, it is crucial to note that Ayedatiwa is not the Chairman of the Palliative Committee, nor does he have the authority to direct the allocation of funds. Therefore, he cannot be held responsible for any breaches of procurement law or mismanagement of funds.
Another aspect of the criticism revolves around the procurement of an armored vehicle for the Deputy Governor. It is essential to ask the right questions in this regard. Firstly, is there a genuine need for an armored vehicle in the Deputy Governor’s convoy? The answer to this question is yes. Governor Akeredolu had purchased three such vehicles in 2022 with N1.5 billion of Ondo State’s funds. Therefore, it is only logical for the Acting Governor to have access to one of these vehicles for his own security.
The next question to consider is whether the proposed amount of N300 million for the armored vehicle is excessive. The answer is no. If Governor Akeredolu could purchase three armored vehicles for N1.5 billion in 2022, then it is reasonable to allocate N300 million for a single vehicle in 2023.
Furthermore, it is essential to understand the process of procurement and financial allocation. The Secretary to the State Government (SSG) is the one responsible for determining the source of funds for such purchases, not the Deputy Governor.
Additionally, the SSG is also responsible for buying the car, while the state Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Akinteriwa, is in charge of releasing the funds. Therefore, Ayedatiwa cannot be held accountable for these decisions and actions.
In light of these facts, it becomes clear that the criticism directed towards Ayedatiwa is unwarranted. He does not have the authority or responsibility to manage palliative funds or determine the allocation of funds for the procurement of an armored vehicle. It is disappointing that the Ondo State Assembly has failed to do their due diligence and ask the right questions before casting blame on the Acting Governor.
It is crucial for public officials and the general public to be well-informed and knowledgeable about the processes and responsibilities of different government positions. This ensures that criticism is fair, justified, and based on accurate information. In the case of Ayedatiwa, it is evident that he cannot be held responsible for the alleged mismanagement of palliative funds or the procurement of the armored vehicle. It is important to separate facts from speculation and base criticism on accurate information to promote transparency and accountability in governance.
Ayedatiwa, the Acting Governor of Ondo State, has been unfairly castigated for issues that are beyond his control and responsibility. The criticism surrounding the alleged misuse of palliative funds and the procurement of an armored vehicle is unjustified, as Ayedatiwa does not have the authority to manage these matters. It is disappointing that the Ondo State Assembly has failed to ask the right questions and conduct proper due diligence before making accusations. It is crucial for all stakeholders to be well-informed and base criticism on accurate information to ensure transparency and accountability in governance.
The above brings us to the alleged plan to marginalize the people of Ondo South through the impeachment of the deputy governor, which raises significant concerns about the democratic process and representation in the state. Ondo South, comprising six local government areas, is a crucial part of the state and plays a significant role in its political landscape.
Impeaching Ayedatiwa, the Deputy Governor, who hails from Ondo South, can be seen as an attempt to undermine the political power and voice of this region. By removing a representative from the area, the people of Ondo South may feel disenfranchised and neglected in the decision-making processes of the state government.
This alleged plan also raises questions about the motives behind such actions. If the impeachment is politically motivated rather than based on legitimate concerns or wrongdoing, it further undermines the principles of fairness, justice, and inclusivity in governance. It can create a sense of distrust among the people, leading to a loss of confidence in the leadership and the democratic system as a whole.
To ensure the equitable representation and participation of all regions within Ondo State, it is crucial to address these concerns and ensure that the impeachment process, if pursued, is fair, transparent, and based on genuine reasons rather than political maneuvering. Additionally, it is important for the government to prioritize the welfare and development of all regions within the state, including Ondo South, to foster a sense of unity, inclusivity, and shared progress.
