The Notaries Public Society (TNPS) has named Justice Kayode Ariwoola, chief Justice of Nigeria, as special guest of honour at its June 20 launch, holding at Marriot Hotel, in Ikeja, Lagos.
In a statement, TNPS said that the “event will bring together all stakeholders within the notary public value chain.” This include “consulates and embassies of the UK, US, South Africa, Dubai & Canada, President of the Africa Notaries Society, representative of the Notaries Society of Australia, Ireland and the UK.”
Expected equally are the internal and foreign affairs Ministries, NAFDAC, SON, some Justices of the Nigerian Courts, senior members of the legal profession and legal practitioners in public and private establishments.”
Activities that will take place during the launch include “inducting of new members by the Council of Notaries, launching of the Society’s online-notarization platform with ToNote Technologies amongst others.”
In a remark, Chief (Mrs) Marlies Allan, president & master of notaries-in-council, said that TNPS would “serve as a cornerstone for enhancing the professionalism and effectiveness of notaries public in Nigeria.”
Hon. Justice Ayo Phillips (Rtd), former chief judge of Lagos and Life Patron of the TNPS’, said that setting up the Society is a way of “supporting notaries in their vital role of ensuring the authenticity and integrity of legal documents, thereby contributing to the overall trust and reliability of our legal system.”
Mr. Muyiwa Ayojimi, TNPS’ honorary secretary and trustees, explained that the Society “was established with the mission to professionalize, promote excellence and integrity in Notarial Practice in Nigeria.”
“The launch event will serve as a cornerstone for our future activities,” he added.
Apart from standardizing notary practices in Nigeria, TNPS said it will equally offer “resources, training, and support to ensure the highest level of integrity and proficiency in the execution of notarial duties.”
