Governor of Osun State, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola has been advised not to be an ungrateful soul, as ingratitude is inimical to progress, and an ungrateful person is a dangerous being.
This warning was handed down on Saturday, 21 August, 2021, by the leadership of the Coalition of Oodua Self Determination Groups (COSEG) after a crucial meeting through a press release signed by Comrades Dayo Ogunlana and Dele Daramola, Chairman and Publicity Secretary respectively of its Coordinating Council.
The group described the on going political crisis in the State of Osun as disturbing and worrisome stating that there is urgent need to resolve the misunderstanding between the immediate past Governor and the incumbent as the people will suffer in the face of the intractable intra-party crisis.
COSEG posited that no matter the situation, the incumbent Governor should be magnanimous in victory and reciprocate the hands of fellowship extended to him by his Predecessor.
COSEG stated further that it was the bad blood generated by his candidacy that forced some political big wigs to abandon his predecessor during the 2018 election.
According to the group, “we see the on going intra-party squabbles in the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a disturbing and worrisome development. Presently, Osun is in the Progressive camp, so all must be done to have it remain there.
“Therefore we want to appeal to Governor Gboyega Oyetola to close rank with his predecessor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. Mr Governor should not forget in a haste the bad blood generated by his candidacy in 2018, which really affected the outcome of the election greatly, so he should be magnanimous in closing ranks with Ogbeni in the overall interest of the people of Osun. The APC should remain one family that’s indivisible. We implore the Osun state Governor to genuinely and sincerely reconcile with Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola setting aside the junk politicking or deception he is being encouraged to practice by his loyalists that do not mean well for the people of Osun”.
The group equally condemned what it tagged as subtle attempt to reduce the influence of Aregbesola in Osun politics, stating that a man who promotes and supports the tradition and culture of the Yoruba people will remain in the heart of genuine Yorubas stressing that his economic and developmental footprint cannot be erased in Osun.
*Ogbeni Aregbesola embrace peace option so that the family of the progressives in the State of Osun will remain united. A united APC fought tooth and nail in 2018, so the family must remain on same page now.
“Ogbeni Aregbesola should as a matter of urgency also disregard any vibes or sign of hatred shown or exhibited by his successor in the interest of the people of Osun. Being a knowledgeable leader with capacity and intellect, Ogbeni should know that the Governor is being misled by people who feel the best way to assume leadership of Osun and be part of Governor Oyetola’s core loyalists is to cause disharmony between them. We plead that the Minister forgive Governor Oyetola and match on.
“To forgive is germane and is ordained by God. We believe nobody can stop the work of God. Ogbeni has an excellent record in governance. The best leader one can think of in terms of accessibility, humility, capacity and understanding of governance and people he leads. It’s therefore, a plus for him to forgive the Governor and move forward as the Yorubas who he promotes their virtues will always seek his wisdom and seek for his leadership anytime”, the group concluded.
