A staff of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) got more than what he bargained for on Thursday, 23 April, 2020 while distributing the electricity bills for the month of March.
The Gazelle News.com reports that the man, Ayorinde Olajide, was beaten black and blue by angry youths in Isale Igbein/Grammar School axis of the Ogun state capital, Abeokuta.
The victim’s left eye was badly injured as a result of the beaten he took from the angry youths who apparently were not happy with the perceived insensitivity of electricity distribution companies in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic which has led to the lockdown of activities in Lagos, Ogun and FCT.
Olajide is of the Imo Service Hub of the Ogun State capital.
He told The Gazelle News.com that he was performing his duty of distributing the electricity bills to houses in the affected areas when some youths accosted him.
Olajide said the youths asked him to stop the distribution of bills and he said he was attacked even before he could explained his mission. “They threw stones and other objects at me, one of which hit my left eye,” he narrated.
He stated further that it was his boss, a woman who later came to rescue him and whisked him away from the scene, even at that, one of the youths still attacked him in the car hitting him hard on his left eye.
The incident was later reported at Ibara Police Station after which he was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Gazelle News.com learnt later that two suspects were arrested by the police over the matter and under investigation.
