The Osun State Government has announced new dates for the resumption of academic activities in the state, reports The Gazelle News.com.
The Special Adviser to Governor Gboyega Oyetola on Education, Mr Jamiu Olawumi confirmed that private and public schools in the state will resume academic activities on Monday, 5 January, 2021.
The Gazelle News.com had earlier reported that the state government announced the closure of all public and private schools in the state in the wake of the spike in confirmed cases of #COVID-19 in the state.
Olawumi made this confirmation, on Friday, 18 December, 2020 while speaking on Rave FM, Osogbo on the sudden closure of all schools in the state.
However, Mr Olawumi explained that the announcement of the holiday was not to create panic for parents and guardians in the state, saying it was to enable them to take care of themselves considering there wil be influx of travelers from others states for yuletide celebration.
Speaking on the sudden closure of schools Mr Olawau said, “The Governor in his wisdom belived that since Christmas and New Year is there and we also have break in our school calendar we should activate this so that parents and guardians will take custody of their wards and look after their health properly.”
When asked about the date schools in the state are expected to proceed on holiday initially, the SA said it is just three days to go, added that the early closure was not to create panic but for all parents and guardians to take responsibility of their children safty against Covid-19
