The aged, the blind, widows, widowers, persons with disabilities and a few young persons were among the over 1000 beneficiaries of Covid -19 palliatives distributed by the 21-man Food and Relief Committee, in Ede North on Wednesday, 29 April, 2020.
The committee was set up by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola to cushion the effect of the lockdown placed on human and vehicular movements across the State, as part of measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the State.
The committee headed by Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, had yesterday flagged off the distribution of food items to three pilot local governments, Ede North, Ilesa-West and Odo-Otin.
Receiving the food items on Wednesday at the Palace of Timi Ede, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, most of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the government and the committee for fulfilling their promise.
One of the beneficiaries, Kehinde Abdulrasaq, a physically challenged person, who identified herself as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said she was happy to be counted among the beneficiaries.
“If we are to buy this in the market, we know how much it will cost. I am grateful to our Governor, Oyetola for this gesture. I am also grateful to the committee for a job well done,” Abdulrasaq added.
In their separate remarks, three other beneficiaries, Silifat Ahmed, Badmus Isiaka Ahmed and Rufai Baba, also expressed their delight at the government’s gesture, saying the distribution of the palliatives was an indication that the Oyetola’s administration truly cares for the vulnerable and the poor in the state.
They prayed for the success of the administration and prayed that God will rid the state of the pandemic.
The distribution of the palliatives meant for Ede North was done at three different collection points: Alafia Hall Owode, Ahammaddiya Obada and Oja Timi.
The beneficiaries were drawn largely from the State’s Social Register.
