As expected, the Edo State House of Assembly has impeached the state Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, reports thegazellenews.com.
The embattled politician has been at loggerhead with his boss and state Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
The bone of contention was the desire of the hitherto Deputy Governor to replace his boss while the latter was not favourably disposed to it.
The crisis led to the organization of parallel primaries in the state to pick the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate with Shaibu declaring himself winner in the primary he conducted.
However, the Governor’s will prevail and his preferred candidate was approved by the party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Shaibu’s impeachment on Monday, 8 April, 2024, followed the adoption of the report of the seven-man investigative panel set up by the state chief judge to probe allegations of misconduct against him.
