The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged security agencies to commence early Security preparations for the Governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu stated this in Abuja during the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security meeting.
Professor Yakubu said, knowing the number of personnel and other assets to be deployed at strategic locations would help in the successful conduct of the two elections.
He said the Commission had made available information kits to the security to help in their preparations.
INEC Chairman also said that in the next few months, the Commission would meet with the security agencies to fine tune plans for the successful conduct of Edo Governorship Election on 21st September while Ondo Governorship election was scheduled for 16th November this year.
In a remark, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu said they would give INEC the necessary support to ensure they succeed on their mandate.
The NSA represented by the Director Internal Security Alhaji Hassan Abdullahi added that the personnel to be deployed for the two elections would undergo training before deployment.
The Inspector General of Police, represented by the CP Election Planning Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr Basil Ideagwu promised that the environment would be secured for both the electoral officers and the electorate on election days.
