The All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted Fuad Kayode Laguda as its candidate for the coming bye-election for Surulere Federal Constituency I, thegazellenews.com can exclusively revealed.
The seat became vacant after the resignation of Rt Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila after he was appointed Chief of Staff to the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Gbajabiamila was the Speaker of the 9th Legislative Session of the Green Chamber between 2019 and 2023.
He won election to represent the Federal Constituency for the sixth term but had to resign after his appointment by the President.
Three aspirants: Laguda, former member of the state House of Assembly, Kabir Lawal; and Agboola Dabiri jostled for the APC ticket in Surulere but Gbajabiamila pitched his tent with Laguda, who until then was the APC Chairman in Surulere Local Government.
On Monday, 17 July, 2023, leaders and stakeholders of the party met and all agreed to back Laguda for the ticket.
The meeting was witnessed by the state Chairman of the party, Pastor Cornelius Oyefolu Ojelabi.
Thegazellenews.com learnt that issues generated by Laguda’s alleged imposition were ironed out.
This medium learnt further that when APC conducts its primaries for the ticket, it will just an affirmation process for Laguda.
