The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCom), has confirmed the rescue of two Nigerian girls who were trafficked to Ghana for prostitution.
NIDCom Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, confirmed the latest development in a statement issued by the commission’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun,
Recall that the commission had rescued 11 Nigerian girls who were trafficked to Ghana for prostitution last week.
Dabiri-Erewa said the two girls whose rescue operation was facilitated by the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) Ghana, under the leadership of the Chairman, BOT, Chief Calistus, are currently in safe custody.
She further reiterated her call for concerted efforts in combating human trafficking in all ramifications as it is another form of modern-day slavery.
According to Dabiri-Erewa, one of the two girls is from Edo State while the other is from Lagos but both of them reside in Lagos State.
She added that arrangements will be made to get them back to Nigeria and handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
