The Federal Government has announced that the 2023 national population and housing census will commence on May 3.
The exercise is expected to take account of every person, household, and structure in the most populous country in African continent.
The Head of the National Orientation Agency, Garba Abari told newsmen in Abuja, the nation’s capital on Sunday, March 26 2023 , that the census will be held for three days across the country, and rounded off on May 5.
“The census is absolutely important because it is for development, planning, security, infrastructure development, educational, health and other demographic considerations all encapsulating in one,” said Abari, whose agency is tasked with communicating government policy.
The official said the forthcoming national population and housing census was important for the country, describing it as “mandatory” with the view of aiding national planning and execution of developmental projects.
Speaking on the level of preparedness, Abari said the census, which was earlier scheduled for March 29 but postponed due to the country’s general elections, is now set to hold, with all necessary arrangements already put in place by the government and the National Population Commission, the organizing agency
