Hon. Hakeem Adisa Bamgbola, a frontline political leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State and Commissioner at the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission, has joined the array of well meaning and patriotic Nigerians who have spoken against the trending “Igbo Must Go Campaign” in Lagos State.
He described the call as a bad intention that should not be allowed to fester noting that it will not be beneficial to the interests of all stakeholders.
Speaking in Lagos, the frontline described the call as an ill wind that would not augur well for all.
“The emergence of the “Igbo Must Go Campaign” in Lagos State is deeply concerning and must be strongly condemned. Any campaign that seeks to promote division, hatred, or segregation among Nigerian citizens is not only deplorable but also antithetical to the ideals of unity and peaceful coexistence that should be upheld in our society.
“It is crucial for all well meaning Nigerians to denounce such campaigns in the strongest terms possible and to reject any intent or objective that the promoters may have in mind. Lagos as a state is richly blessed in diversity, with various cultures, languages, and traditions that should be celebrated and embraced rather than employed as tools for division.
“As Lagosians, it is imperative that we continue to strive towards living together in peace and unity, regardless of our differences in culture and language. Unity should be our strength, and we must work together to build a strong, prosperous, and united Lagos that accommodates and respects all its citizens, irrespective of their cultural background.
“We should aspire to create a Lagos where factors such as religion, language, race, or creed do not dictate how we relate to one another. Instead, we should focus on fostering mutual understanding, respect, and collaboration to ensure a harmonious and inclusive society for all.
“In light of these troubling developments, it is essential for all Nigerians to rally behind the vision of a greater Nigeria under the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government and the THEMES+ agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwoolu. These agendas prioritize development, progress, and unity, and we must support and actively contribute to these efforts in order to build a brighter future for all Nigerians. Let us reject divisive campaigns and embrace a shared vision of a peaceful, prosperous, and united Nigeria. And the time is now,” Bamgbola said.
He commended the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his proactiveness in debunking the campaign and giving assurance to Igbo in Lagos that they are safe.
