Germany and Bayern Munich legend, Franz Beckenbauer is dead, reports thegazellenews.com
Beckenbauer, arguably Germany’s greatest ever footballer died on Monday, 8 January, 2024 at the age of 78.
He was a German legend: captaining then West Germany to World Cup glory on home soil in 1974 after winning 3rd place in 1970 and runners up in 1966.
Beckenbauer also led Bayern Munich to three consecutive European Champions Cup (now UEFA Champions’ League) in 1974, 1975 and 1976.
In 1990, Beckenbauer led Germany to World Cup glory becoming then only the second man to win the World Cup as player and as a coach after Mario Zagalo.
Ironically, Zagalo himself died on Saturday, 6 January, 2024 at the age of 92
