Peace and tranquility have returned to communities in Agege Local Government and Orile Agege Local Council Development Area following the invasion of the communities by the Awawa Boys on Sunday, 12 April, 2020.
The Gazelle News.com reports that the state police command have mobilised fully to the area and the officers and men of the Nigeria Police are fully on ground parading the nooks and crannies of the councils maintaining peace and order.
Officers of the state Task Force on Environment, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and all the divisional police divisions in the area have been mobilised and fully on ground.
The Gazelle News.com learnt further that the various CDAs in the areas have also mobilised vigilance teams keeping vigil in the area.
Former Commissioner for Transport in the state, Comrade Kayode Opeifa who spoke exclusively with this medium confirmed that indeed peace has returned to the area.
“Police have restored peace and they are now fully on ground. We’ve to commend the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu for his prompt response to our distress calls,” Opeifa said.
He also urged the people of Agege and Orile Agege to remain calm but vigilant to report any suspicious move or utterances of any individual or group in their communities.
The Chairman of Agege Local Government, Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi who also spoke with The Gazelle News.com, confirmed that peace has returned to the area.
“We are on top of the situation and I want to assure our people to remain calm as the situation is under control. Police have been mobilised fully and they are on ground,” Egunjobi said.
Some residents of the area who spoke with The Gazelle News.com confirmed that police have now taken over the streets of both Agege and Orile Agege councils.
“Yes, policemen are here on ground and we also have our youths who have also constituted themselves into vigilance groups keeping vigil in the affected communities,” a resident of Agbotikuyo area told The Gazelle News.com. A fact confirmed by another resident of Shitta Street in Dopemu.
