The election petition tribunal sitting in Osun has declared Mr Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the Saturday, 16 July, 2021 gubernatorial election held in the state.
In the ruling delivered on Friday, 27 January, 2023, the Tribunal ruled in favour of Oyetola having established cases of over voting in some of the polling units in the election.
The Tribunal chaired by Justice Tertese Kume held that indeed there was over voting in 749 polling units during the election.
The Tribunal having deducted the unlawful votes from the lawful votes, ruled that Oyetola indeed has the majority of the lawful votes cast during the election.
It thus, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Ademola Adeleke of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and handed it over to Oyetola.
