Immediate past Commissioners of: Health, Budget and Economic Planning and Information and Strategy, Professor Akin Babyomi, Sam Egube and Gbenga Omotoso respectively were among 17 Commissioner nominees who failed to secure the clearance of the Lagos State House of Assembly, reports thegazellenews.com
Former Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo; her counterpart in the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs Cecilia Bolaji Dada; erstwhile Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure, Engineer Aramide Adeyoye; and former Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals, Mrs Solape Hammond were also not lucky as the lawmakers declined to confirm them.
However, the House members cleared: the immediate Special Adviser on Education, Tokunbo Wahab; erstwhile Commissioner for Agriculture, Bisola Olusanya; former Commissioner for Housing, Morufu Akinderu Fatai; forme SA on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Kayode Roberts; former SA on Housing, Toke Benson-Adeyinka; and former SA on Innovation, Tunbosun Alake.
Among new nominees confirmed by the House are: Jamiu Alli-Balogun, former Solicitor-General of the State, Lawal Pedro, SAN, Dr Adekunle Olayinka and Idris Aregbe.
In all, 22 nominees were confirmed by the House while 17 other nominees were not confirmed.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, who presided over the day’s sitting, said the confirmation followed rigorous and detailed screening of the nominees by a ad-hoc committee led by the Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Fatai Mojeed.
He commended the committee for its effectiveness and urged the confirmed nominees to always remember that they are in office to serve the people of the State and not individuals.
He also promised that the House would continue to do its best in the interest of the State.
The confirmation was done through a voice vote as Dr. Obasa mentioned the name of each of the nominees.
However, the lawmakers rejected 17 of the nominees.
