Rt Hon Wasiu Eshinlokun Sanni was born on March 24, 1961, in Lagos into the families of ESHINLOKUN, OLOROGUN ADODO of Lagos and also an Ikorodu and Eti Osa indigene, currently he is the Deputy Speaker Lagos State House of Assembly.
He began his academic journey at Holy Trinity Primary School, Lagos Island, Lagos State. At the early age, his leadership traits had been called to task as he held the position of HEAD BOY. He passed out with DISTINCTION in 1975.
He attended Ansar- Ud-Deen College Offa, Kwara State for his secondary education from 1975-1980. He was the Library Prefect and he graduated with GRADE ONE in the West African School Certificate Examinations. Once again demonstrating leadership qualities and passion for service.
He acquired a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) degree in Agriculture with Specialization in Agricultural Economics from the Ogun State University (Olabisi Onabanjo University) in 1988 and continued his quest for honours at the University of Lagos, Akoka in 2000 where he bagged his Masters’ Degree (M.Sc) in International Law and Diplomacy (MILD).
Wasiu Eshilokun Sanni, a grassroots politician, was elected as the Vice Chairman of the SDP ward C1 Isale Eko in 1990, Organising Secretary of the UNPC in Lagos Island Local Government in 1995, Publicity Secretary of the UNCP in Lagos Island Local Government in 1995-1996. The emergence of the 4th Republic, led him to joined the progressive party, Alliance for Democracy (AD) in 1998.
In 1999, Rt Hon Wasiu Eshilokun Sanni was elected member Lagos State House of Assembly representing Lagos Island State Constituency I. He stood out remarkably as one of the performing legislators. He contributed to many progressive ideas. He served in the following committees:
i. CHAIRMAN – RULES COMMITTEE (SADDLED WITH THE REPONSIBILITY OF WHAT TO BE DONE ON DAILY BASIS)
ii. CHAIRMAN- COMMITTEE ON COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY
iii. MEMBER- COMMITTEE ON ENVIRONMENT AND PLANNING
iv. MEMBER – COMMITTEE ON WORKS AND INFRASTRUCTURE
v. MEMBER – COMMITTEE ON SPORTS AND YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
vi. MEMBER- COMMITTEE ON AGRICULTURE.
He was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Legislative and Political Matters by the Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2004. He was called to service again by the administration of His Excellency, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) who appointed him as the Secretary of the Lagos State Microfinance Institution (LASMI) in 2008.
He was elected as the Executive Chairman Lagos Island Local Government and served two terms as Executive Chairman of the Premier Lagos Island Local Government from 2008 – 2014.
He was tasked to serve as pioneer Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos State Chapter. He worked with the Party Chairman to evolve sound administrative footing for the newly formed APC.
In 2015, he was elected member again to represent Lagos Island State Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly where he is serving till date. He was elected the Deputy Speaker, serving a second term in this exalted position. Eshilokun is an astute politician, a committed progressive and democrat with a remarkable ability to lead and serve. Credible legislative and executive experience adjudged widely to be marked with excellence in initiatives and implementation of developmental programs and projects. He is active and articulate in debates and contributions on the floor of the House. His numerous motions and assignments are pointers to his wealth of knowledge regarding legislative processes and current issues in Lagos and Nigeria.
Profound qualities of leadership and remarkable record of service to the people. He combines extensive administrative, executive and legislative experience which has been of immense value to the Lagos State House Of Assembly.
