The All Progressives Congress (APC) for Lagos Central Senatorial District, Rt. Hon. Wasiu Eshilokun Sanni has pledged to work with lawmakers of likeminds to ensure a law that will confer special status on Lagos is passed by the National Assembly if he is elected to represent the Senatorial District at the Upper Legislative Chamber.
Rt Hon Eshilokun-Sanni stated this on Sunday, 8 January, 2023, at the Pavilion, Lekki Phase I during an interactive session with residents of Lekki Phase I.
According to him, Lagos deserves a special economic derivation fund from the Federal Government because of its huge contribution to the economic stability, growth and development of the country.
“Lagos is the hub of economic activities for Nigeria and hence it deserves not only a special status but also a special economic derivation fund.
“Lagos plays host to the major ports in Nigeria, contributes lion of company and value added taxes to the purse of the Federal Government and has the highest human capital in the country due to its population,” Rt Hon Eshilokun-Sanni said.
The event was the Lekki Phase I Town Hall Meeting put together by APC, Lekki I chapter. The interactive session involved all APC candidates vying to represent the area at the State and National Assemblies.
Other candidates present at the event were: Honourable Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro, representative of Eti Osa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives; and Honourable Noheem Adams representative of Eti Osa State Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The candidates were invited by Lekki Phase I residents to interact with them on their manifesto and how the people can benefit from their programmes.
The Lagos Deputy Speaker told his audience that Senator Oluremi Tinubu has laid a solid foundation for the actualisation of a special status for Lagos.
“I’ll build on this foundation, liaise and interact actively and positively with Lawmakers of likeminds to ensure that a law is passed giving special status to Lagos,” he said.
According to him, having been in the Lagos Assembly for 12 years, with eight of such years as Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, he has the needed and necessary legislative experience to serve the people of the Senatorial District in the Red Chamber.
He reminded his audience that the Constituency Project being enjoyed by lawmakers today was as a result of the initiative of his and lawmakers of likeminds during his first term as a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly between 1999 and 2003.
The interactive session was attended by the Director General of the Lagos APC Campaign Council, Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon; and Chairman of WES Campaign Council, Chief Yomi Daramola among other party stalwarts.

Sir Malachi Ezeoke, Vice chairman; and Alhaja Sherifah Abiola Andu, Chief Executive Officer of the popular Arabel Islamic Shopping Centre.
