A Leader of the Labour Party (LP) in the Southwest Banji Omotoso has dragged the Federal Government of Nigeria, FGN and the Attourney-General of the Federation, AGF before an Akure High Court, seeking the declaration of the court that the May 29, 2023 handover date and inauguration of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu remained sacrosanct and unchanged.
Omotoso, also a leader of the Aggrieved Labour Party Members in the southwest, is also seeking the relief of the court for a declaration that on no ground must the Federal Government, through its agencies, agents or officers imposed an Interim Government on the people as being illegally proposed by some unscrupulous elements, adding that Interim Government is unknown to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Rather, the Ikere-Ekiti born politician is seeking an order of the court directing the respondents to go ahead and inaugurate the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday, 29 May, 2023 as provided by the law of the land.
In an Affidavit in support of his statement before the Commissioner of Oath, filed by his counsel, M.P. Ogele Esq, the applicant said it was a known fact that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Presidential Candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) won and was declared the winner of the Saturday, 25 February, 2023 Presidential Election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) having met all the requirements to be so returned as elected President.
However, Omotoso frowned at the undemocratic attitude of some pseudo groups and ethnic bigots agitating for Interim Government in place of the inauguration of the Democratically Elected Government led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that there is no provision for Interim Government in the 1999 Constitution.
“The issue of the Interim Government is causing tension within the body polity of the Country, despite the warming issued out by the Department of State Security, DSS to avert breaking down of law and order, before, on and after the May 29, 2023 inauguration day.
“What should be paramount in the mind of every Nigerian is the readiness to work with the former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the winner of the 2023 Presidential Election after his sworn in as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come May 29, 2023,” Omotoso stated.
