The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has disclosed that he has summoned a meeting with prominent cement manufacturers in the country over the rising cost of cement.
Umahi expressed worry that the cost of the product was rising at an alarming rate despite huge patronage by road and housing contractors to cement manufacturers.
The Minister’s Special Adviser (Media), Orji Uchenna Orji, stated this in a statement made available to newsmen Abuja on Saturday, 17 February, 2024
According to the statement, the meeting would take place on Monday, February 19, 2024, at the Ministry’s Conference Hall, Mabushi, Abuja.
“The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has summoned an urgent meeting of all cement manufacturers in Nigeria.” the statement said, adding that those invited are Dangote Plc, BUA Plc, Larfarge, and others.
Umahi explained that it is common knowledge that the manufacturers have their challenges, saying that they shall look into, but from their findings, the disparity between ex-factory price and the market price is wide.
The Minister added that they need to look into the situation and other issues with a view to finding a common front.
