Mobs have set ablaze a suspected armed robber who allegedly stabbed an eighteen-year-old POS operator to death in Taraba State .
The incident, which occurred on Monday, 17 June, 2024 was said to have taken place near the yam market in Wukari Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that the victim, who was attacked in her shop, was said to have been preparing for her National Examination Council (NECO) exams.
According to sources from the council, said the suspect entered the girl’s shop under the pretense of making a withdrawal.
“On approaching her shop, the suspect, who could not succeed in stealing money, ended up stabbing her, which resulted in her death.”
Another source also said the suspect would have escaped, but the youths went after him and set him on fire.
Chairman of the local government council, Ismaila Dauda, confirmed the sad development.
“It is true that one young man went into a POS operator’s shop and stabbed her to death on Monday, June 17th, 2024, in Wukari town. The suspect was pursued, caught, and lynched to death by hoodlums.”
“It’s a sad and unfortunate incident. The young girl of 18 came to prepare for NECO exams and unfortunately met her untimely death,” the chairman said.
At the time of filing this report, security agencies were investigating the incident.
The state police command also confirmed the incident through its Acting Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Gambo Kwache.
According to Kwache, “The suspect who stabbed the POS operator on her neck was lynched by the youths who went after him.”
